About two weeks ago, that ‘ole familiar question started to appear with increased frequency. Via email, by phone, thru Twitter and LinkedIn, here it came. There were a few variations on the theme, but for the most part the question is the same as it was last year about this time, and the year before that, and actually, the year before that!
“So what do you think, are you going to HIMSS?
My answer each year (save for the year that I canceled last minute because my 16-yr old daughter had a boyfriend crisis and needed me more than the HIMSS’ Interoperability Showcase did) has been the same, “Absolutely!” And I believe I can safely speak for my fellow bloggers here at Healthcare IT Today when I say that we all are in agreement that attending the HIMSS extravaganza is a worthwhile investment.
Last year I wrote a “Job Seekers Guide to HIMSS10” for Healthcare Informatics magazine. I was planning to rewrite the series, but after rereading the posts I realized that my previous advice still stands. So, rather than reinventing the wheel, I invite you to explore the series, substituting “11” for “10” and “Orlando” for “Atlanta”:

The link for Part Two is not working properly. It will take you to Part One again. Can you please let me know how to access Part Two?
Thanks, Laura
HIMSS is immense and there is plenty to see and do.
I can’t help thinking though as technology makes its way out to the Ambulatory practice, there is a need for the dissemination of information out to the medical professionals for whom HIMSS is not cost effective or possible due to patient scheduling. What about the small guy?
Hi Laura!
The link is fixed – thanks so much for pointing that out, and for reading! Will you be at HIMSS?

I wish I could make it to HIMSS this year! I was so spoiled last year when HIMSS exhibited in my home town! I’m looking through the HIMSS11 yellow pages, and it looks like there’s plenty of good material to learn.
