Please Give Your Advice

I receive requests at least weekly for advice from job seekers that would like to get involved in Healthcare IT consulting.  As I was reading the latest request the morning it hit me that my advice would be much more valuable if I received input from all of you in the Healthcare IT Today community!  Twenty thousands heads are definitely better than one!  What follows is a recent request (with some details changed to protect identities).  PLEASE offer your advice so those job seekers will benefit from all of the great minds in the Healthcare IT Today community.

Here goes:

Joe,

I am currently enrolled in (a Healthcare IT program) scheduled for completion in early March 2012. I have over 24 years of military medicine experience as a healthcare manager, non-physician provider and in health IT programs like (multiple military health programs).  As I believe healthcare IT  is an untapped field that will benefit populations greatly and leads me to believe this to be lucrative. My history will show on a resume that I have a great deal of experience although nothing in consulting or the implementation of systems.

What would you recommend for a motivated person like me to hit the Health IT consulting and implementation business like a pro when I finish school?

Thanks

Job Seeker

Please respond with your advice for this motivated job seeker.  I think your advice will benefit many in similar situations!  I look forward to actively participating in the dialogue with all of you!
