Jacob Rhoades

Jacob Rhoades joined Parker in October of 2009 to serve as the Director of Talent Acquisition for Parker where he manages the recruitment teams covering Technical, Healthcare IT, and Administrative staffing divisions. He comes to this position with over 10 years of recruitment and account management experience.  Jacob is a proud graduate of Marquette University – GO WARRIORS!

What was your first job?
My father was a tailor and my mother was a seamstress and together they owned a small embroidery factory. This meant a lot of free clothes, some of them home-made (a skill I wouldn’t truly appreciate until well after junior high).  I’d spend my summers boxing clothes, hooping shirts, and folding, folding, folding shirts. It was actually a fun way to get to know my folks and I can sew on a button like no one’s business!

What was your worst job?
I was 16 and worked at a pizza joint as the oven guy – I would pull the pizzas off the conveyor belt, slice the pizzas, and box them. Getting a job there was a big deal to me – to put this in perspective, I am the only person I know who couldn’t get hired at a McDonald’s  (this, despite having two friends who worked at the place as well as my own car.  No, I’m not bitter.)  So imagine my surprise when a pizza place not only hired me, but gave me a giant machete.

I still have nightmares of pizzas falling off the conveyor belt, I Love Lucy style, while a pimply oversized me frantically hacked away at the pies like my life depended on it.

Needless to say, my career in the restaurant industry was short-lived.


What are you going to blog about?
Recruiting has been my first and only job since graduation, so I plan on sharing some of my experiences in the industry, as well as tips on how to deal with recruiters, negotiations, and the job hunt from our point of view.  Hopefully I’ll give you some insight as to how to work the process better and pick out the good recruiters from the bad.  Additionally, I’ve learned a few things along the way, myself, so as a gesture of goodwill, I’ll happily share my insights with other recruiters, in an effort to make their job just a tad bit easier.  Why?  ‘Cause I’m that kinda guy.
