10 Traits to Advance Your Career

Inc online has a great article which identifies 10 traits of people who advance in their career. You can check out the full article for all the details, but here’s the list:

  1. Enjoy a Challenge
  2. See Failures as Opportunities
  3. Possess Confidence
  4. Are Optimistic
  5. Are Open to Feedback
  6. Look for a Mentor
  7. Are Flexible
  8. Focus on Results
  9. Aspire for More
  10. Are Good at Negotiation

This is a great list if you’re looking at how to advance your career. I’ve seen all of these elements in some of the most successful people out there. Each one is worth considering in the context of your own career.

The one that I like best is being optimistic. While optimism isn’t essential to career success, I’ve found that optimistic people are more likely to succeed. Why? People want to be around other optimistic people. So, they hire and promote the optimist over the pessimist. However, even more important than that is that life is a lot more fun as an optimist. If you disagree, maybe you’re a pessimist.
